Peas or Matar curry is a very simple yet delicious dish that goes well with chapatti, puri, naan or any flavoured rice..
300gm frozen matar/peas
1 onion (small)
½ inch ginger
2-3 tbsp tomato puree
1 boiled potato mashed
½ tsp Garam masala
½ tsp Turmeric
2 green chilli chopped (as per taste)
½ tsp mustard seeds
½ tsp cumin seeds
Few curry leaves
2 tbsp. oil
Coriander leaves for garnish
Grind onion, ginger and green chilli together.
Heat oil in a pan on medium and add mustard seed, cumin seeds and curry leaves. Let it splutter.
Add the onion paste and sauté till it turns slightly brown and oil starts to separate.
Add tomato puree, cook till the moisture evaporates and tomatoes soften.
Add frozen peas, turmeric, garam masala, salt and stir. Cook on low heat covered for 10minutes.
Add the mashed potato, ½ cup water and mix well. Let it simmer for another 5-10 minutes.
Adjust the seasoning. Remove from flame.
Garnish with coriander leaves.
Serve hot with steamed rice or chapathi/roti/puri
